AUSTRALIA DAY

I stood and watched from discordant shadows,
The great Queen pass in her regal car,
And the great white God in his silver wagon,
All following a bullet proof shining star.
The headlights glimpse my bare feet on the gravel,
Then burned two margins into empty space,
Red tail lights fading as they travelled,
Towards the profits of a richer place.
Left in the darkness with my only self,
Making sentences from the splendid scene,
I wondered what it was that gave them wealth,
And if they'd ever been where I had been.
Did they think this of me as they passed?
Or did they not see my shadow in the shadows cast.
